This is a post from the Apple discussion community asking for help. I am not sure what the exact reason why the iTunes cannot work properly when you try to back up your iPhone,iPad or iPod Touch. As every software in the world, however, iTunes has never been the perfect one. Or you know little about how to backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with iTunes in the way it is supposed to work.
You can smooth out the trouble mentioned above by restarting your computer and your iOS devices, or checking your windows security settings, resetting the Lockdown folder and freeing up some spaces. If one of these steps works, life is good for you.
If, unfortunately, all of the trials failed, you should learn how to back up your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch without iTunes. There are third party software like iFonebox can export and transfer the iPhone or iPad data to your computer for backup.
The most current version can export and back up to 12 categories of data including Contacts, Notes, Messages, Reminders, Calendars, Voice Memos, Photos, WhatsApp, Messages Attachments, WhatsApp Attachments, Call History and Safari Bookmark.
You can download a free trial version to have a try and you need to pay for the full version.
Now let’s get down to the detailes.
Step 1: Install and run the full version of iFonebox. Connect your iPhone, for example, to your computer. Click the button of “Start” after your iPhone is recognized by iFonebox. In this way, you have chosen the recovery mode of “Recover from iOS Device”.

Note: One thing you need to keep in mind is that iFonebox is available for both Windows and Mac users, so please choose the right version according to what kind of operating system you are using. Here I would like to demonstrate how to create additional backup for your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with the iFonebox for Mac when you iTunes does not work.
Step 2: If you want to back up certain category of iFonebox, just choose the data type you want to back up by clicking on the related icon. If you want to create a backup for all the data iFonebox support, please check the top right box “Recover All”.

Step 3: Locate a folder for the backup or you can just use the destination folder defined by iFonebox for Mac by default. You will be brought to the backup folder where you can view all the data exported from iPhone after the recovering process finishes.
