The current iPads are endowed with larger storage space up to 128GB. Backup is still the utmost important thing no matter how large your storage space is. The usual way to backup your iPad is to sync with iTunes, since iTune is such a powerful application which is capable of backing up everything on your iPad such as photos, contacts, calendar, events, safari bookmarks, cookies, notes and App store apps. iTunes backs almost everything up that you can name on your iPad. You can just download the iTunes (the most current version which your iPad support is advised ) and check the backup button to sync your iPad to iTunes on your PC or Mac.
If you are using Mac, you can find the backup file in the following location.
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
If you are using Windows PC, your backup file is located as below.
Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
The problem of backing up with iTunes is that you can only restore the entire backup file to your iPad, there is no way for you to choose whatever you want to restore. Though your iPad Mini boasts a large storage up to 64G, it is not necessary to keep everything on you iPad all the time. And worse still, there is risk of data overriding when you try to restore the iTunes backup file to your iPad. In case of that, you'd better make sure that you always synced your iPad Mini to iTunes.
And there is another option, find a third party iOS data management tool, say, iFonebox. iFonebox
can extract and transfer various data including Contacts, Notes, Reminders, Photos, Safari Bookmarks, Voice Memos and Messages etc to your PC or Mac. You can also recover the deleted data with iFonebox if you choose to. It is available for both Mac and Windows, so it is possible to back up your iPad Mini on both Mac and PC.
You can free download the trial version to have a try, but you need to purchase the registered version to backup your iPad Mini 3.
